Assembly and packaging stage

Miss one component binding and the chain breaks

A finished unit is built from mainboard, display, battery and mechanical parts, each with its own batch. Which parts are bound during assembly, and what goes into each carton at packing, decide how complete traceability is after shipment.

Process nodes

Eight nodes, from component kitting to inbound

This stage has more blocking points than the previous two: incomplete binding, batch mismatch and weight out of tolerance all stop the unit. The order follows a typical assembly line and can be changed per line in the admin.

  • InterceptionNon-compliant work is stopped — no way around it
  • RecordedAuto-logged, queryable afterwards
  • VerdictRule-based verdicts bound to the SN
  1. 01 Interception

    Component kitting

Key parts marked separately; scanning verifies batch and work-order match

  2. 02 Interception

    Assembly

Binding enforced per BOM; routing blocked when the bound quantity is short

  3. 03 Recorded

    Fastening

Torque or station parameters recorded; out-of-range values flagged

  4. 04 Verdict

    Functional test

Test items bound to the unit SN; failures routed to repair automatically

  5. 05 Recorded

    Appearance and cleaning

Cosmetic defects entered and dispositioned, counted by station

  6. 06 Verdict

    Weighing

Weight compared with the carton specification; out-of-tolerance units are not released

  7. 07 Interception

    Cartoning

Carton SNs must share one work order and batch — mixed cartons lock; carton-to-SN bound one-to-many

  8. 08 Verdict

    OQC and inbound

Sampling results bound to the batch; release logged and searchable by carton

Shop-floor issues

Four gaps in component binding and cartoning

Assembly generates the most records and is the easiest to skip when shipments are rushed. The one that is skipped becomes the break in the chain.

01

Component binding: left to memory

On-site

A unit binds a mainboard, display, battery, camera and mechanical parts. What to scan and what to bind depends on the work instruction and memory. Under shipment pressure one binding is skipped, the system says nothing, and one branch of the trace is missing.

System

The BOM defines which components bind in what quantity; scanning at the station is mandatory and routing is blocked until complete. Bindings roll up by unit SN and can be expanded at any time.

02

Key parts: forward only, no reverse lookup

On-site

When something goes wrong you need to know which units a battery batch went into, but most systems only trace from unit down to component. A recall then scopes by production date and pulls back good and bad together.

System

Batteries, displays and cameras are marked as key parts and support reverse lookup from a component batch to every unit SN. Forward and reverse use the same bindings, with no second ledger to maintain.

03

Cartoning: counting by hand

On-site

Carton quantity, weight recheck and the carton-to-SN mapping usually rely on manual counting and a handwritten sheet. Short shipments, mixed cartons and wrong labels are found when the customer opens the box.

System

Weight is compared with the carton specification and out-of-tolerance cartons are blocked. Carton SNs must belong to one work order and batch, or the carton locks. Carton-to-SN is bound one-to-many and traceable after shipment.

04

Labels: printed, but reprints are invisible

On-site

There are three labels — carton, inner box and SN — and the templates sit on a clerk's PC, so every edit forks a copy. Reprints are not recorded, and two labels for the same SN cannot be detected.

System

Label templates and coding rules are configured centrally and prints are logged. Reprints require authorisation and a reason, and duplicate prints for one SN are searchable.

Acceptance

What the system must answer after go-live

Acceptance scenarios are built around customer complaints and recalls: given a component batch, the system must immediately scope the affected finished units.

  1. 01

Trace a component batch back to finished units

Given a battery batch, list every unit SN carrying it and the cartons those units shipped in

  2. 02

    Incomplete binding cannot pass

If the bound quantity is short or the batch does not match, the station blocks — no reliance on operator discipline

  3. 03

    Mixed cartons cannot ship

Locked when carton SNs disagree with the work order; weight out of tolerance alarms on the spot

  4. 04

    Label reprints leave a record

Who reprinted, why, and how many times for the same SN — all searchable

Next step

Verify a recall scenario on site

At the model factory, name a component batch and trace which finished units it went into and which cartons they shipped in, to verify the chain end to end.
